I am soo upsetI spent alot of time and energy this year on my garden only to have it mostly flooded out. I had 9 different types of dried beans, green beans, peas, lentils, lettuce, radish, corn, cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and a few other items all flood out. My potatoes are only just starting to grow potatoes under them, and I have yet to check my onions or carrots. I did manage to get some cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli, but only because this was in a different location. I will have tomatoes, peppers and maybe a few beans from my greenhouse. I got to eat a meal of peas and a half a meal of beans from my garden. I checked out the market gardens around here and wow are the prices outrageous!!

Sorry to hear of your gardening woes. I have struggled here this year as well. A frost in July, one in August and then woke up to -.7C this morning. Not much hope with that kind of stuff happening! Rolling Eyes

We had a cool, wet spring here. The beans and beets did not sprout and were replanted. Conditions must have been ideal this summer as things that usually struggle here grew well. We have huge tomatoes and even pumpkins. The last couple days have been cold and as I type the woodstove is been started.

Aww, Smoky River that is so disappointing.
Planting and growing a garden takes a LOT of time and effort. When you don't get good results its so disheartening.
My saving grace this year was my raised garden beds. My DH built them years ago and I just love them. They allow for better drainage on a wet year like this, but they do tend to dry out faster on a normal year. Also our soil is sandy, so the extra moisture doesn't hang around very long. I think my garden this year is actually the best one I've ever had, mostly because I'm never very good at keeping it watered properly. Mother nature did that for me this year. Smile

Ours is a rightoff this year too. Might as well have sat and watched TV for all that it will produce.

Going to til it up, smooth it out and reseed the lawn and then move the garden to higher ground next year.

Hubby is goinng to strip the top soil off the 2 low gardens bring in some fine gravel and then more sand which can both be found on our quarter, then spread the top soil again. Makes alot more work, but hopefully we won't have the same issues again. It is just so frustrating when you can't even get into your garden to weed it and you can see the plants are trying to grow, but the weeds are outgrowing them. This year was horrible if you had a low lying garden, but an awesome year for people where there was good drainage. A friends garden is absolutely amazing. Her corn and sunflowers are over 6 feet tall and producing like crazy. Guess that is the risks taken when planting a garden, just had to vent on the frustration!!
