Ughh! So one of the chicks I 'helped' is not going to make it. Toes are too curled and it can't stand.

What's the best way to let it go peacefully. Somehow snipping its head off just doesn't seem right. I find this part way more difficult - dealing with the newly hatched that aren't going to make it, over just not getting a good hatch and having them die in their shell.

I take it in one hand, and swing it hard so the back of the head/neck collides with a solid object like a fence.

I just hold the chick in my fist with its head poking up above my thumb and finger and apply pressure on its back and chest with my thumb and finger so it stops breathing. Another way is hold it in one hand and knock it on the back of the head with a 5/8" to 3/4" round piece of wooden dowel. Like you would a fish.
