I find they are hard to see early on, but by day 14 or so you may see the air cell line, if not by then by day 18 for sure. With the darkest eggs and olive and greens you need to tilt it over the candling light as you rotate to see the line as it will be at an oblique angle. I candle my eggs laying on their side and if you tilt so the fat end is on the candler and the pointy end off it, as your rotate, you'll see the line better.

I've had good luck seeing into blue/green eggs with my hubby's shop light. I use a coffee can over the light with a hole cut in the top padded by a washcloth. The downside is it gets quite hot, so I usually do 5-6 eggs, then take a break while everything cools off.

Also, I'm pretty sure I read on here (or on ACe maybe it was) about someone using an old projector for egg candling. One of those suckers should be able to light up the darkest eggs! Smile
