barely saw the nest!!! thinking we have several nests going on around here, because of all the sandpipers and noise going on lately...

EDITED. we have always called them sandpipers!!! OOPS!! they are most definately not though, they are identical to the killdeer plover pictures I found--- thanks for that!

That is so amazing how well blended in those eggs are. I showed the second picture to the girls and they couldnt see the eggs, then showed them the one with the arrow and they thought that was amazing.

We have alittle Kildeer nesting just about 25 ft. from my back barn door. Usually they nest further out in our field area and I always have to watch when mowing the grass. But this one is so close I check every day to make sure she is still there as well as her eggs. She is sitting hard though but I worry about her with our cats. When I mowed last week I sort of went around her so there is a strip about 8ft long around her. She watches me every morning washing my waters etc and never moves. I think she is quite used to me. Looking forward to seeing the little ones.

A mother and 2 wee ones are out in the cattle yard here. The mother goes flapping across the yard away from her children as if she has a serious problem. As soon as I leave she recovers and returns to her family. I haven't seen her nest, but she appears here every year.

I love the way their chicks look when they hatch. They look like little cotton balls. We had a nest of them and we did the same thing. Mowed the grass around her and she just sat still. Take pictures when they hatch.
