Hi everyone,

One of our Silver Appleyards has been setting on eggs for 3 weeks now. She made a nest in the corner of the duck house and when she started to go broody, we partitioned her off from the rest of the flock. Just a piece of plywood across the corner, so not very big. My question is...when the ducklings hatch, is it safe to let the mother and ducklings join the rest of the flock after a week, or do they need to continue to be separated? I always keep my broody hens with chicks separated from the flock, but this is our first broody duck.

I think I would do the same with your ducklings, as your chicks. Better safe than sorry. Smile

I think you're right Lady Leghorn. No reason to risk it!
