It's a little bit too soon to tell, as I've only done a couple of hatches with this pairing (a lovely blue wheaten hen x handsome blue wheaten roo), for a total of about 15- 20 chicks, 3 different hatches... but so far, they ALL seem to be pullets.  The youngest ones are 4 weeks old and are still looking pullet-y to me, though it's possible that 1 could be a splash roo ... anyway... just wondering... I sold 8 to someone a couple months back and she says they all look the same... which by now is odd, as the boys should be looking considerably darker... Question

Holy...that hen is a keeper! It certainly does seem unlikely to have all pullets out of 15-20 chicks. I have 16 chicks right now and it is exactly half and half with eight of each.

I know, right? Sounds crazy and far-fetched, but she's definitely throwing a lot of girls out there... I can confirm in another 4 weeks when the other person's chicks feather out more... should be able to confirm hens/roos by then.

That would be amazing! I hope it the case and she passes this spectacular trait on to her offspring.

Did the hen in question lay all the eggs or just hatch them? Is anyone adding to her nest?

The one hen layed all the eggs. For sure and positively.

Might be the year for pullets, for sure. I have kept back 4 chicks from "Happy" my blue wheaten ameraucana and 3 are confirmed pullets, 1 confirmed roo. I do have 2 more chicks from her, but are only a week old, so too soon to tell.
I also have kept 4 silkie chicks from my pair, and 2 are for sure pullets... and gotta wait to see what the other 2 are; they are only 4 weeks old.
AND I only kept 2 chicks from my blue marans, and BOTH are pullets! Yay!!
Thank goodness; the last 2 years have been mostly boys!

Well I was checking my Buff Silkie older Chicks.   Heather and I weren't sure if there were 4 roosters and 2 pullets or not.

But after having a really good look at them today in their new run, I have 4 pullets and 2 Roosters.  I am thrilled.  So won't have anything for sale

this year after all.

Question----On a warm sunny day, could I wet their topknots down with warm water so they can see better????    Anybody?

So... update... I kept 6 chicks from different hatchings and I got 5 pullets. Yay! Not sure how the ones I sold turned out. I lost one lady's contact info, but need to email the other one... REALLY curious to see what she ended up with!
