So very shortly I have to replace my ancient computer.
Can anyone tell me if and how to save or transfer
all my favorite list?

There are a variety of ways. If you are transferring from a Mac I won't know what to suggest. Microsoft has an "Easy Transfer" program for XP or Vista that you may download from a MS website. From there you use that program to transfer your user data to the new computer via your home network, to an external drive or by joining the two computers together with a usb cable. This will not transfer your programs like MS Office.

There are ways to transfer programs as well. MS has designed their newer operating systems to make some of the old XP programs obsolete to force us to buy new programs. We have an old accounting program that suits our needs just fine, but it will not work on our newer computer even in Win 7 Pro's XP mode.
