A day in the life of a barrel racer, a video of my Daughter

Sometimes I am compelled to share things in my life. I would not be sharing this now, if my Daughter had not given me permission. It has been shared on U-Tube, so I feel I can share forward. Our children bring pride to the hearts of their parents – both our Daughters, bring pride in many different ways. This particular instance of pride that made me nearly drop to my knees with weeping, needed to be shared.

Many of you know me in the person, some through emails, some only through forums. I am a basic gal, down to earth and love to tell tales and stories, and share life experiences. To me this is a good thing, and I know that I have made many a sad person feel happy with things that I say. To me, in my mind’s eye, this is a gift that requires to be shared. And to anyone that enjoys to read my writings, thank you.

My oldest Daughter and her Husband are extremely active in horse eventing. All kinds, cattle sorting, penning, barrel racing, pole bending, everything you could imagine and they go many times to clinics to improve skills and learn. This is their life. Social and busy.

This past weekend oldest Daughter and her friend took the big trailer, which has living quarters and head down to Chilliwack for a big event. The friend of hers is a professional videographer and has had some interesting stuff on the OLN. Some kind of prize for something, was won by oldest Daughter. That prize was for this gal with the videocamera to spend time with her and make a video of her day with her horses (she has 6 horses, only two went with her to Chilliwack).

The weekend was warm and sunny and was the perfect of most perfect. Late spring weather is just awesome. Enjoy what I am bringing here to share. The video is a couple of minutes long, but may be difficult for some to get to places where internet ease is not easy. But for those of you that are interested, take a gander. My good friend and neighbour was there too. It is a small world isn't it? Will have a look at the video when it finally loads.

Beautiful, Cynthia. Your daughter seems to truly love her horses. What I particularly appreciate is that as her horses work their hearts out over the finish line, she is NOT whipping them with a crop. Instead she reaches out and gives a pat. I am glad I saw this.

Too cool! My 3 year old just watched that with me and said I can do that The day she sat on her pony and it spun ( me holding on to her) and her laughing hysterically must be that fast horses are in her future!

The part where she was sitting on her horse and leaned forward to half hug/ pet her horse brought a tear to my eye. Took me back to my best horse and the final pic ever took of us together was that exact same shot!! That photo will forever be etched in my mind even though it has long since been destroyed by fire! That just brought back the memory!!

thank you all for the kind words. She loves her horses, and never would raise something that may cause hurt to them. Hands are to be used as a tool for praise, smiling. Smoky, that made me feel sad, but you have memories in your mind's eye, and that is a powerful thing.

Coopslave...you're not reading through all I have said, bad girl . Daughter and the friend videographer took the big horse trailer down to the coast. A five hour journey. That horse trailer has living quarters in it, like sleeping and a kitchen set up with water, fridge, stove and nice table, a bit queen size bed. There is a huge area for food storage for the horses, tack, and can take 4 horses, it is huge (and I cannot imagine the gas bill either). They stayed in the unit where the eventing was taking place, probably Heritage Park in Chilliwack. Thank goodness the winnings usually pay for the event fees and usually some of the gas money, not always, but a bonus when it is like a little paid holiday, smiling. Their "hotel" is paid for with the ability to sleep with the trailer in the place. Does this help you to understand now, teasing. Did you like the video, when it finally loaded, Coopslave. I wonder if your neighbour and my Daughter know each other, a quite likelihood.

Fuzzy, bet your Daughter is going to be horsey, just like her mamma!! That was cute with the little tale of the spinning pony and her. Fast horses, gotta love them.

This made me laugh CynthiaM. I obviously used an Australian saying in my post!!!
When I said 'how did she go?', I didn't mean how did she travel, I meant did she win anything! I slip from 'Canada' talk to 'Australia' talk without even knowing. Well, sometimes I know because I see the look on people's faces that I have said something that doesn't make sense to them!

So thank you for clearing up how she travelled, but now I would like to know how she placed.

It was a beautiful video and something she will be able to treasure for the rest of her life. Very cool!

Oh geeze, now Coopslave, you make me laugh. If you had said "how did she DO" instead of "how did she go", I would have totally understood!! I don't actually know. I do know that in the last barrel racing event somewhere else recently, same boy, the big appendix quarterhorse took some first prizes. I never pay attention, really. II imagine because of the monetary awards given that she must have done really good. Sometimes she talks about some things like "D" and I dont understand, like 2D, 3D, 4D, 1D, not even sure if this is when they are barrel racing. Finals with barrel racing come up again in Chilliwack in the fall. That is the big one, with hundreds of eventers. So...not sure I can answer your question, but I think very well. Lol, this is funny!
When I first went to Australia it took me ages to get used to them asking 'How're you going?' I always wanted to say 'in a car, or walking thanks'. NOw I catch myself asking people 'How're you going?' here. Make sure when you say it, it sounds like all one word. Doesn't help that hubby still uses all the sayings he grew up with! Of course all the sayings sound better if you have an accent.

They also made fun of me when they would ask if I wanted a drink and I would say 'no thanks, I am fine'. They would say 'I didnt ask how you were, I asked if you wanted a drink'. And then of course they would laugh!

You are right CynthiaM, there is 1D, 2D, 3D, & 4D. I don't really need to know how she did, just interested. I am one of those people that is a bit goal oriented with my horses so it is a question that comes naturally to me.

Thanks for sharing the clip Cynthia. I always enjoy watching others that love their horses do things. Its one of the big reasons I have a hand in our local western club. Getting to watch the kids and their horses together and the bonds they share.
