This little guy greeted me this morning. My amateur entomologist neighbor says it is a St. Lawrence Tiger Moth.

Beautiful moth. Great shots of it.

One of the places we lived, we were in the migratory path of the Bogong moth. They were not real pretty, but big suckers!

Amazing that I took this photo with my iPad! I did not think it would give me such a nice close up.

My youngest son just found one of those this week Smile It was sure neat to see something different. Those white cabbage butterflies I could do without, though.

Did it give you a jaunty bonjour, or was the little beret the give away to its home?

He stuck around for a while. I even picked him up and he bubbled some noxious liquid at me through his head. Quite a defense. I think you can see the bubble in a couple of the pictures.

Pretty sure that is a garden tiger moth rather than a st. Lawrence tiger moth based on the colour pattern and antennae. Very similar moths. Beautiful either way.

You are right. I sent the picture to the fellow who has albertainsects.com and he confirmed the ID. He also asked if he could use my picture on his website, as he did not have a photo of one yet.

That's cool that he wants to use it. It is a really good shot.
