Walked into the barn and I caught a weasel crawling into my young rooster pen through the 2x2 stucco wire. I ran back to the house and tried to get the .22, but due to my fast fingers pushing the wrong numbers twice, my gun safe locked me out. I ran back to the barn and grabbed a 4 ft long piece of 2x2 and looked for him. Then I heard a loud noise, but I knew right away that it was no chicken in distress, but the weasel screaming very loud. The cat had him perfectly at his throat and killed him swiftly. Thomas then dropped him in front of me when it was totally still and left it. There, job well done, I could not have done it better. I don't know how Thomas managed to chase him out of the chicken pen and caught the weasel from under my trash in the barn. What a day!! No lost chickens!!!

That's a great cat!!

I found my Siamese eyed up the birds a lot until I held him up to a banty rooster who pecked his nose really hard. He refused to look at chickens ever again but hung around the pens looking to pick off the rodents. Never caught a weasel though - that's a real hunter!

That's awesome! We have finally a great barn cat who's cleaned up our rodent problem really well. The barn is almost mouse free and a few weeks ago he spent a saturday catching voals in our pasture. I think my husband said he cought 5. And for the 1st time this year we actually have cherries that have ripened and we can eat becuse every time a robin lands to eat he crawls up the tree and scares them off!

A good cat is worth their weight in gold...or pate!

What a great cat Piet, our next door neighbour's cat also caught a weasel on the weekend. Very bad creatures around chickens weasel's are. A few years ago I found one in my floor pens that I kept my young birds in after they left the brooder and she must have been there for a good portion of the night as she had killed every white bird in one of the pens numbering about 35 and had lined them up like cord wood as she would try and pull them under the door and most were just a little bit to big to fit under, it was surreal and when I came in she was working on the blue colored birds in the pen, very weird. I caught her in a live trap about 10 minutes later and then also caught 2 ogf her young which looked like they just started getting around. Always felt bad as she had killed all the mice around and was now just trying to feed her family but it is what it is.

Your Cat gets a special treat for his good work.

What a great cat Piet. We have some great ones around here too. One momma cat lives in our chicken house (actually just had her kittens in a nest box yesterday), she has never harmed a chicken or even a young chick, but does a great job of keeping the mice out of the coop. She also keeps the wild birds out of the coop which is great. Have yet to see any of my cats catch a wheasel though, you have a keeper there.

Good cat! I think there is nothing like a good cat. We are lucky to have one too. Keeps the house vermin free (even spiders!), catches voles everyday and is even cleaning up the gophers in the front field. I see him with gophers he can hardly drag sometimes.
So good with the chickens too. Even the little chicks he does not touch. We have a feral cat hanging around the coops and he puts the run on it every night.
Great cat story Piet.

That's a great cat! I used to live with a cat that was a living wonder. She was a voracious huntress! She too caught a weasel and we were shocked. She wasn't much bigger than it (in stature - obviously she had it in her!) but she would take down anything she set her mind to.

I have two barn cats that I feed. I am reluctant to stop feeding them but I think I may need to as the mouse population is growing in my coop again. Time for some tough kitty love.

That's really cool that your cat brought it to you like that. My inside kitty does that with mice when she ventures outside. She's a great bug hunter too but she eats those. silent
