There was a huge grass fire north and west of Maple Creek yesterday. I could see the smoke rising when I went out with the kids around 4:30 pm yesterday, still not sure of the cause of the fire, but by the looks of things it came off the CPR tracks.
I know that one farm was lost, and another was in danger last night, but by the time hubby got home and we got out there it was pretty much contained.

Seen this on the news this morning, they said it burned for a 10 mile radius and burnt some bales.... EEEK Hope no one got hurt. They also said that it is super dry in your area Hidden, that is never good!

no smoke up our way but it sounded bad down there, what a crazy wind, whole house was shaking seemed like! Blew some stuff around, 90 or 100km /hr wind i think they said!
Glad they got it out now, must have been pretty scary fire with that wind blowing!

Hard to imagine a grass fire this time of year out there. Perhaps I don't understand how fires work and this may not be that uncommon in Saskatchewan in March.

not that uncommon...worst fire we ever had on our place was on St. Pats day a few years ago.

We also didn't get much snow this year, hard to believe in Saskatchewan. Last year we had snow to spare, then all the flooding in spring!

There was another grass fire inthe coulees north of Lethbridge earlier this week. That one started from an abandoned campfire.

Yes, this Lethbridge fire came very close to a friends house! There have been so many fires this year here.

Wow, sorry to hear all of this. Scary. It is our biggest threat this way but in the Summer, coming down from the mountains.

Yikes. Grass fires and high winds are never good. Stay safe everyone!
