We are renovating a multi-purpose room here. It is regularly a bedroom for the grandchildren who stay with us an average of 1 or 2 nights per week. In addition it is their playroom when they live with us. Part of the renovation included replacing a cover on a futon and new curtains. The old cover was torn off the futon for a pattern and the curtains started when my wife's sewing machine quit. We had purchased a 1930 Singer last year with the idea of teaching grandchild to sew with a manual machine. The machine needed a few parts which arrived recently and my wife put them together, downloaded the manual off the internet and put the old machine to work. Project finished.

That is super cool! I would love to get an old Singer machine with the treadle that still works.

I have a lovely old girl and she works great! My only problem is the leather "belt" that drives the machine from the treadle needs to be replaced. Any ideas? There was a wonderful craftsman here in Kelowna that carried them a few years ago but his shop burnt down and he never reopened.

Hi Echo 1, I have an oldie too and it is in need of serious repair.  I ordered the required parts, including a new leather belt for the drive wheel and have yet to sort it out.  Always a lot of other things to do but will get there one day.  Here is the place I got my parts from (think it was from here):

That is a cool story Rosewood  Smile .  Want to put photos?  -  machine and finished product?  It feeds the obsession  Twisted Evil .  btw, did you find a new vehicle?

We'll need to wait a bit for pictures as there are a few finishing touches like buttons for the futon. We ordered the parts from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] By knowing the serial number you find the model number to order the correct parts. There is a website that will provide a birth certificate for these old Singers. We also have my mother's old Singer from 1936 but do not have a cabinet for it.
