I Must say though, when I saw a woman who was obviously pregnant smoking in the car park the other day it was a test for me to not march over and rip the cigarette out of her hand, give her a wee lecture .

Magdelan wrote:Hey Prariedog, I can still smell when someone is smoking in a car going the opposite direction and we have the windows rolled up. Sometimes I smell a particular type of cigarette and am transported directly to my Da. He and I both smoke(d) roll your owns, don't have some of those extra chemicals in them so they smell diff from tailormades. I loved the whole ceremony of rolling my own cigarette, and having a drink at the pub or after work, cuppa tea . . . what ever, all part of the love affair. These things were part of the whole addiction, it wasn't just making a switch from the chemical hit, it was all the other associated parts, a lot of it was social. Like you BCBoy, cold turkey was my way. Once I made up my mind it was easy but getting to that point was the trick, it was like Smeagol/Gollum (from the Lord of The Rings) talking to himself! I was good at believing my own lies for a long time until I saw how tricksey I could be and had to ask how serious I was about the change. Also discovered that there is no point telling anyone I was going to quit cause all you get is expectation and guilt tripping. It had to be on my own terms and when no one was watching - gave freedom to get it done without all those social pressures.

This is sounding a lot like what my Dad calls a "cowboy's breakfast" - ie a cigarette and a look around. always amused me. I liked a cup of tea with mine - take the sting out of the nicotine. yeah, the first puff was always the best part. I might puke now but it was always the part I longed for the most. Hope this thread is not the reason you fall back in to the habit PD. I will stop romancing it now.

Wasn't it Prairie Dog who had the avatar of the kid sitting on a chair smoking with a giant rooster beside him? That should have been disturbing too, but for some strange and twisted reason I really liked it!
