Yikes!

I know it doesn't help to say so now... but I keep a shovel by every door I have. Barns, sheds, garages, front gate, etc. Just in case of that!

Yep, we also keep our shovels accessible! And our heavy equipment isn't all in the same building.

We're on a school bus route, too, so we're *supposed* to get plowed out first, and the grader does our driveway as well.

We're not snowed in, but the quad was sure struggling to haul hay this morning.  Time for the plow to be attached.  We did have a bit of a hangover this morning.

Wow...and here I am in Smithers with grass showing through the lawn still...odd.  I wouldn't mind a little snow to insulate things.  I can't even bank up the house yet!

I feel your pain I spent all day yesterday having temper tantrums clearing snow.  We got some warm weather and its sticky  Mad   I still have so much to clear and dig out but I'm procrastinating.  In town was nutty with 9 school buses stuck, semis and passenger vehicles all over with RCMP saying stay home so I did!  Kids have a snow day again today cause roads weren't much better so wasn't worth the risk.

Farmer Bob my hubby went out to Terrace and Smithers this week and I scrambled getting him new winter tires on his truck so he'd be safe driving and he's seen nothing but rain!!!  Meanwhile at home I could have used his new tires and 4x4  Rolling Eyes   I'd gladly send you some of our snow cause I'm tired of clearing it only for more to fall and blow filling where I've cleared.

Looks like you have light fluffy snow Smokey I hope it blows into the neighbours property for you  Twisted Evil

I had a shovel by the house and for once my oldest son decided to put something away!! We have the door shovelled enough the kids could get in to feed and water my poor kitties who were locked in the shop last night luckily!!! We will shovel it out more and will shovel away from the big door so we don't have an avalanche when I open it to get the tractor out. I also have to find out which snow drift is hiding the bucket so I can use it to open thing up!!

The grader operators are not allowed to come more than approx 10' into a driveway here. For anyone wanting some snow you are welcome to bring a truck and haul away all you would like. On the up side, my rabbit hutches now have an extra layer of insulation!!! Lol

Our recent cold spell followed by lots of snow has caused a problem with our creek. It froze almost completely which forced the flow to come to the surface. Warmer weather ands snow blocked the surface flow next to our turkey coop. The turkeys had a new lake just outside their pop door. I spent part of the day breaking surface ice and raking slush to make a channel for the flood. If it stays warm it will turn to its normal channel.

It is not even officialy winter yet but our place
looks more like its mid to the end of winter.
Each year as the snow comes off the roof (very long slop on one side)
it piles up and towards the end of winter it touches the
roof and sometimes backs up onto the roof. We call this
igloo time. Well the snow came off the roof yesterday
and it is almost piled high enough to touch the roof.

Smokey snow drifting can be awful. One year we had
everything all clear the parking area, out behind the shop,
and a big area out to the barn. Then we had a big wind
storm. Awoke to everything being filled in to about 4 feet.
I had to climb the gate to the barn and walk through all
that just to feed. Then we had to hire a fellow down the
road with a snowblower attached to his tractor to come
clean us out. We could not even get to our tractor.
It took him 45 min and we were free except the field which
we could do with our tractor once he freed us.
Our goal is to get a bigger tractor and a snowblower, great
thing to have.

I'm right in there with all of yah snow removers. Spent the last 2 days snow blowing it and then it rained today  Evil or Very Mad  UGH. which just makes it harder to move. Back at it tomorrow.

Murphy's law smoky, that's when they decide to as they are told. I'll trade you heavy wet snow for your drifted fluffy snow?

Most of our snow has melted - big south winds are like blow dryers - snow just disappears. Didn't feed the bulls or horses today - they were off rustling out of the wind and didn't even come out when they heard the tractor.

Well I went out to the boys pen today with the snowblower
to make them a pathway to get out side.
I did manage to make a small one but the snow was so
wet with rain/snow coming down the snowblower just
kept plugging up so I gave up. May have to hand shovel
then maintain with the blower.

Do you have a snowblower?
My brother gave me one a few years ago and man has it
saved my rear a few times. At least with it I can snow
blow my way out to the barn etc then worry about the rest.
I have even done most of our parking area with it.
It sure is better than hand shoveling.

No snow blower here. Hubby is going to town today to see if he can buy one for behind the tractor. Hopefully he can find something a walk behind would take forever to plow out road or even a path to the chickens. My chicken building is approx 300 yards from the house, and my road is probably double that! Lol. It would at least get me out of a bind though it would take a while to get done, but could at least get me self out!! Lol
