So a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of going to the National poultry show.

This show was amazing. With nearly 7000 entries it was really a sight to behold.

The way the show work over here is that each breed club has its own show and judge, and then the winners from these specific breed shows are eligible to place in the overall show. I think this method works really well because each breed is judged by an individual who really knows the breed and is able to spend a bit more time on them.

The rare breed poultry society puts on the show for all the breeds that are not represented by individual clubs, and there were some amazing birds in that group.

Beautiful Houdan bantam. The quality of many of the breeds was a sight for the eyes.

The Faverolles were shown in 7 different colours of LF and Bantam, and all of top quality. I got a chance to hold some of these birds and they were solid muscle.

There was a really good Waterfowl section. A nice thing about a show if this size is that there is a bit of everything. I am fairly sure that over 100 different breeds were shown.

There was a nice selection of trios being shown as well in all categories. Lf, bantam, goose, turkeys and ducks were all shown as trios.

I tried to get some pics for every one. I have some cochins and rose comb RIR for KathyS on Photobucket. There is a polish for TB, Faves for Steve and then just the fin ones.

Thanks for sharing. Did you happen to take a photo of the best Dutch Bantam? They have some real good ones over there. Piet

Dutch are one of the breeds I didn't actually get a chance to see! I ran out of time! It was a huge class though. Plenty of barnevelders and welsummers though

Thank You  Thank you Butterboy! What a fabulous experience, to attend a show like this and its wonderful that we also get a little glimpse of the show through your pictures. I will definitely have a look at the rest as soon as I get a few minutes.
That's interesting, what you said about how the British judging system is set up. Since our shows have under 1000 birds it wouldn't be feasible to have a separate judge for each breed club. But it would be awesome to know your birds were being judged by someone who is an expert in that particular breed.
