So a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of going to the National poultry show.
This show was amazing. With nearly 7000 entries it was really a sight to behold.
The way the show work over here is that each breed club has its own show and judge, and then the winners from these specific breed shows are eligible to place in the overall show. I think this method works really well because each breed is judged by an individual who really knows the breed and is able to spend a bit more time on them.
The rare breed poultry society puts on the show for all the breeds that are not represented by individual clubs, and there were some amazing birds in that group.
The Thuringian Bantams were really cool!
Welbars, along with many other autosexing breeds were shown
Beautiful Houdan bantam. The quality of many of the breeds was a sight for the eyes.
The Faverolles were shown in 7 different colours of LF and Bantam, and all of top quality. I got a chance to hold some of these birds and they were solid muscle.
There was a really good Waterfowl section. A nice thing about a show if this size is that there is a bit of everything. I am fairly sure that over 100 different breeds were shown.
Pied Muscovy took Best heavy duck
First time seeing an Aylesbury in the flesh
There was a nice selection of trios being shown as well in all categories. Lf, bantam, goose, turkeys and ducks were all shown as trios.
The Supreme Show Champion was a Mottled Pekin Hen
A massive egg show too, takes up 2 pages in the catalogue
