I showed these before, but I am so thrilled with them. The 2 blue pullets are laying well, consistently and a very nicely coloured egg for how long I have been working on their program. I want to sort the combs out still, but happy with the egg colour from this year.

Here are the ones from the last two days along with the green eggs from the other 'project'.

They make a lovely contrast! The brown are as dark as my black copper marans'.

Thanks Beep, they are something that I am developing that I am calling Coopers.  They are a smooth combed, dark egg layer more winter hardy than the Marans.  Still a work in progress, but I am happy with how they are developing.

Here are the blue pullets that laid the eggs.

Oh geeze, what a beautiful array of eggs. Coopslave, I have been getting one small brown egg for two days now, I have four of the Coopers and 3 Barnevelders. I think the Coopers are 2 weeks older or so, than the Barnevelders. I do not know who is laying the dark brown egg, but I would bet my bottom dollar it is one of your Coopers. I took a picture, but can't remember if it is on my phone or on my camera, I'll try and get it to this thread so you can see. Have a beautiful day, CynthiaM.

I don't think my cooper is laying yet, I will let you know when she does. She is a very nice looking bird though.

I had to wait until the barnevelders left, because they might have been one of the dark egg layers.  They were not the ones laying, it was one of the Coopers for sure.  the one pullet that has been laying one egg a day for a few days is still laying one egg a day for about a week.  I am very pleased with the size of the egg and the colour.  For the size of the pullets, which I think are not a very big bird (remember I have very large large fowl only), that they will whomp out a very large egg.  I would say big.  Just thought I would pop a picture in to show you some size comparison.  The girls are staying here, smiling.  have a most wonderful day, CynthiaM.

the first pullet egg laid, a week later, two eggs that are remarkably increased in size.  The light brown egg shows a buff orpington egg, which is considered a large size, so very pleased with colour and size.  I will try to remember to get a picture of the four girls later.

Thanks for posting them CynthiaM. Pretty happy with that colour too. Nice to see some consistency to work forward with. I would like to get them as dark as I can, but these certainly are a very good start.
My girls eggs are still pullet sized, but getting bigger.
As far as size of the bird, I think they are pretty good sized but you are right, they are not huge. I should weight mine and get you to do the same. It would be interesting to see what the pullets actually weigh. Remember the breeds you have are fluffy and that makes them look bigger. The Coopers are a tighter feathered bird.
Sadly with the move I am only able to keep one cockerel so if something happens to him the program may have to be put on hold for a year. Just how things go I guess.
Hidden and Bckev are the other two people that have some pullets, hopefully they post some pictures of the eggs they are getting. I hope the egg colour is as good.

Yesterday, 3 Coopers eggs. Two small pullet size, one large sized, like in the picture I put on here. one more to go. Seems they have all began to lay within a week of each other, can't wait for the fourth eggy girl to begin to eggy lay. I am very impressed with the dark colour too, and the size of the whomping egg that is still as large as the day that she began to lay large eggs. For the size of her, that is a whomping huge egg. Yes. Coopslave, they are much more tightly feathered than my cochins and buffs, and probably if they were naked beside each other Shocked Razz they may be similar in size, smiling. Not height, but body look I suppose I mean. But ain't goin' there, they need their clothes on, smiling again. come on girl, one more to go! And ya, not giving any of them back, na, na, na, na, na, keeping those beautiful dark brown egg layers! Have a beautiful day, CynthiaM.

Coop, your moving to Alberta and being in the path of travel for friends and family who come my direction relatively often is going to be WAY TOO CONVENIENT.

Did anyone elses Coopers hybrid begin to lay? Mine did. But stopped, the cold weather and the move to a new coop threw them for a loop, hopefully they will start up again. Have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

CynthiaM, 2 of mine have started again. They went through a little mini moult a while after I moved them. The youngest one hasn't missed a beat since she started a month ago. The other two pullets are almost fully feathered again and I expect them to start any time. One of the older hens had a full moult and has just started again in the last week or so.
