So. Sometimes I have chickens missing feathers - with bald spots. Generally I can tell why the feathers are missing:
1.the hen is the rooster's favourite,
2. the bird is moulting
3. the birds has lice or mites.
BUT I currently have a hen who baffles me. She is missing feathers at the base of her tail and her head is almost totally bald. Not just the back of the head (rooster's favourite) but all over, around her eyes and beak.
No sign of creepy crawlies anywhere but I have dusted her thoroughly (yesterday). Is this just a moult? She is otherwise healthy active and an older Buckeye.
