I need some input about a fall market sale. When is the best time? It looks like September is wide open in our province or do we go into October? Venue? Simpson is always available(would be more room than spring sale) and it sounds like Wadena would be if they have a good turn out on the 18th. I'm open to all suggestions on a venue as long as its fairly central and CHEAP. Or do we even need one?

I think there is call for some fall sales. I know Red Deer is not having one, they are going to do vender booths at their show instead.
Not sure on Ty I am sure he is doing a fall sale.
I personally would rather do a market style fall sale as opposed to giving my birds away at an auction.
I think planning a fall market sale before the auctions fire up is a good idea, that way if people don't sell all they need to sell at the market sales they have the option of the auction. If you do it after the majority of the auctions are over most people will have already sold most of thier stuff.
Wadena is that much further for me to go, Simpson was great, personally I would love something closer to Moose Jaw but a person does need it central to Regina and Saskatoon as well to draw people. I know a few drove a long ways to come to the Simpson sale, so I am sure buyers will still come no matter where it is?
It would be great for most, and according to the map quite central for all us Saskatchewan members to do one in Moose Jaw. I know many from my area have no problems doing a day trip to Moose Jaw, same with people from Saskatoon or Regina, but the problem is finding a place cheap enough that will allow a bird sale...

I agree Moose Jaw would be good if we can find a proper venue cheap enough. M.J. has lots to offer (shopping Hotels Casino)easy to get around and right on the #1 highway. It could be perfect.

I'm all for a fall sale around Moose Jaw area. Very Happy I know Johnstone’s fall auction is on October 30th of this year, so maybe early Oct or even mid-late September? I'm just throwing dates out there. Would a sale like this need a permit or just suitable space?

I think it just needs suitable space, somewhere indoors with lots of floor space. Cement floor for ease of cleaning, or a riding arena or something similar.
I wouldnt think you would need a permit because it is just sellers selling their own stuff.

How much space would we need ? I have a quonset that is pretty big? But you probably need something a lot bigger. Lou

How big is your quonsette? I guess it would depend on how many conseignors there were?
I know Ty's riding arena was very full, even people down the middle, and if your quonset is as big as ours a person couldn't really do down the middle, but I think our's is is 30X60 and that would give enough space for 13 - 10X10 booths, if you did 3 booths at the back, and if the building was 40 ft wide you could easily do a section of booths down the middle with plenty of room for walking between them all...Really the place we had at Simpson wasnt all that big and DLC made it work just fine, not sure the total of conseignors but nobody I heard was complaining about space.

I will find out how big it is for sure. There are places where people could park there trailers as well. Lou I think it is 50 x 150 feet.

Have you had a chance to measure your building Lou, I think it would be a fantastic place for a fall sale. Close to Moose Jaw and then it also give me an excuse to come see your place. Very Happy

I will help as much as I can. A couple of things, as you know we will need access to tables and maybe chairs (people may be able to bring there own chairs). Liability if someone gets hurt (a remote chance) but I'm a worry wart. Anything else?

Well all the sales I have gone to it was left up to the sellers to bring thier own items necessary to sell, so cages, tables, chairs, etc.
Some sort of food area would be great, never thought of that, was nice in the rink that the womans club would put that on. But I dont think Lou is that far from Moose Jaw so a person could always run there to get food if need be or bring a lunch.

An idea for a food booth is to talk to the grad class, or a youth group or 4-h club and see if they would be interested in doing a booth. This is what we have always done for our horse get-togethers, and it works great!

I'll help as much as I can. I would suggest charge a little more than I did and advertise.(divide the cost between the vendors) Besides the free ads I spent over $100.00 on ads including the producer and I dont know how much it cost pop for the Kijiji ads at the top of the page. So Simpsons was well advertised. I put up all kinds of posters and did send them to people I thought would be interested. I realize we want to keep the cost down but I think advertising is the key. Which way from the city are you Lou?

I agree, the vendors are willing to pay more for a booth if the event is well advertised, I can help by putting the ads out in some papers for you Lou, but the cost would have to be recouped, and your place rental as well for the time and effort you put in to get it ready and power, etc. I am pretty sure there won't be brooders set up for fall but one never knows, but lights cost as well.
I think advertising is the key.
