I posted on FB,and thought I would share my fortune here as well. I just want everyone to know that I have the BEST father-in-law in the entire world. He just spent the last 2 days helping me build a wall in my greenhouse so I can heat it properly. It has cut down my energy consumption by a pile and I am no longer worried about a frosty disaster in there. (I already lost most of my tomatoes - luckily the petunias can freeze solid and remain unharmed). We had a great couple days laughing at our rudimentary carpentry skills. It was tricky as we were using scrap (read twisted c34p) and it took some creative carpentry, but it is beautiful and I am so very lucky to have him.

If you can marry into a family that loves you as their own, you are fortunate indeed. Happy growing!

That's awesome! What a relief to know things won't freeze. I didn't even start anything this year. It's just too cold.

That's great. How did you do that. Did you double the poly walls so there's an airspace between. I'm trying to figure out how I can start my bedding plants in my greenhouse without heating it.

I have some heat in my greenhouse. I have 220v power supply and heater. It throws a lot of heat. I have been running it since late March. I started by putting a small (8X8) greenhouse kit inside my big greenhouse and heating that. It took me 2 hours to fill that with plants!! It got me by the last 2 weeks of March. Then, I built a poly wall down the third arch - (18 feet) - that was too big a space (and too drafty) for the heater to keep up with so I put a poly wall down half of that again, but strung it from the middle brace at the top of the arches. That worked OK while there was still 6 feet of snow piled on either side of the greenhouse. Now that the snow has melted away from the sides there is a lot more draft - and the poly fell down (disaster). I spent the last 2 days hauling wood chips around the outside and taping the roll-up sides. I have a blower unit to inflate the walls - but that will be a next year project now. That will help my draft issues. For now, I have a space of 21 X 18 that is nicely heated and I couldn't be happier. It will be permanent now. This summer I will put a diesel furnace in there. I am a farmer - next year will ALWAYS be better! For now, I will spend my Birthday (Today) in my greenhouse digging away and singing to myself and the family of mice I just found.
