Last evening we arrive home from the city to find a murder of crows hanging out in our backyard trees. Now this isn’t exactly unusual, but what is strange is that they didn’t immediately take off. I went back where the commotion was and discovered a dead crow lying face down on the ground. Thought he must have hit the living room window and broke his neck, though this would be a hard feat due to the close tree line. No biggie. Went to get the shovel, came back, and flipped him over. Suddenly the cause of death was very apparent. He had a broken off tree branch right threw his chest! We figure he must have come in for a landing too hot and impaled himself on a tree. Never seen anything like it. Come to think of it, I've never seen a dead crow before…hope it’s not a bad omen...
