I guess whilst on a topic of thinking about Tara and her upcoming acknowledgement of heritage breed chickens in Small Farm Canada magazine, I have to mention something cool. Not about me, but something of interest. I must set the scenario correctly for understanding of why I am writing this thread.
I am very old friends with a gal that goes by the name of Heidi, she lives in Chilliwack, in the Lower Mainland of B.C., and has a farm that goes by the name of Greendale Heritage Farms. We go back many years, her and I. I helped her with some things when she firstly began to delve into breeding poultry, and she has come a longs way, baby. In particular, the work she has been performing with the Lavender Orpingtons, come a long ways with this, and other breeds too. This is where I must toot her horn, because she does not come on forums anymore, things went wrong and she just doesn’t like forum atmospheres. I’ll say no more.
Some short time ago, Heidi had told me that she had been interviewed by Edible Vancouver writer, and that there may be an article being written in this magazine about her. I have not read this issue of that magazine, but surely will, I am spurred now to read two. Small Farm Canada and Edible Vancouver.
The other night when we were out for dinner a friend texted me. Not really my friend, but a friend of my oldest Daughter’s, whom we have loved since a child since she was best friends with Daughter. The relationship has always been there, with her and us, back burner for many years, as everyone does their own things in life. Recently, we have reconnected, through various things and she has become very interested in chickens, as she is purchasing a small farm. I will be helped her with which breeds to select, and she will hopefully have a beautiful yard full of beautiful birds. No intention of her breeding, she just wants some eggs and eye candy, no cockbirds at this time (well shall see how long that takes). These creatures of beauty she shall have.
This friend that had texted me was telling me that she had read an article about heritage breed chickenss. She went on to ask me if I had any black or blue orpingtons, she had read about them. I told her nope, only have the buff. I also told her, and I bear this with pride, that I believe that the article that she read may have been about my friend, Heidi, of Greendale Heritage Farms, in Chilliwack, that this article was about (not having read the article, yet......it could be just a few mention of words or many, I just don’t know). I don’t know why, but I felt that big lump in my throat, that I could tell my friend that texted, that I knew this woman well. This was just a warm comfy and fuzzy feeling that I wanted to share with my forum friends. Have a most beautiful day, CynthiaM.
