Most of you probably have seen this already, but I hadn't. Just linking for others that may not have either.

The first family to settle my ranch had a huge vegetable garden with lots of plum and apple trees. I keep meaning to replant but the deer are vicious with fruit trees.

It tells us we are zone 4a but I think we are really zone 3. I don't think a lot of zone 4 stuff would do well here.

Well, it says I am a 1b. -70 C isnt unheard of here. Most years I think this is right, the occasional hard winter though, I think we drop much farther! Normal years a week of -50's C is about right. A month around -40's C. A few months of -20's to -30's C. In the last three winters the coldest was actually -58 C.

At the same time, I know we grow things for zone 2 without much issue. Zone three, most dont survive, but a couple if really really babied will survive unless it is a hard winter.

2b or not 2b, That is the question! Whether 'tis nobler to be located on the other side of the Modeste creek whereupon I would be situated in a 3a, or take arms against a sea of gardening troubles and by opposing to end them: to die, to weep.

Jayme, could we bookmark this?

A couple funny things about zone information. First, they only cover raw temperature information. There are several factors including snow cover, fall precipitation, layout of other plants in the bed and the use of mulch. Also, sometimes the varieties were never even really trialed properly in low temperature climates.

In my experience, a zone 4 plant is almost always worth trying out, often they survive just fine. With a little help, I sometimes even get some zone 5 plants to do well.

Thanks for sharing the great link. You sure can see the valley bottoms in B.C.. I wonder how much tax money we give to make this site possible? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

For some technical reason I'm not allowed to view this website. We consider ourselves to be in a milder zone 3 or a less mild zone 4. Down at river level here they can grow peaches. We have grapes growing next to the house.

We have cherry trees ,grapes ,fruit trees here and they do just fine .I think it's more a matter of protection from the enviroment then just the zone ? We're zone 4 from what I understand ,but some might argue that

I'm having fun with this as this is the 3 posting I've tried with being logged out once and two- websites too busy.
Bcboy, thanks for your screen capture. The area shown is about 5 kms south of our area. We are north and east of Barriere.
