If you are just using it for your own family, you can cut your cost in half. Kill and butcher your own meat and then you even know for SURE you are eating your own raised pork. Many butchers pool their meat and just make sure you get your calculated weight back.

So good to hear you had the same problem I did R.Roo. Where am I going to put ALL of this pork!
Then the next problem is What am I going to eat first?

Our butcher was pretty vigilant about getting us back all of our animals. They didn't cut it the way I wanted them too but we won't get into that.I will be changing our butcher this year. I'm hoping that by going with someone who isn't overwhelmed and has more diverse cuts I'll get what I want, not what they tell me I want.

I had done some reading myself and believe me it was inspiring I was ready to kill, gut and hang........ but alas I don't have the set to do my own Sad maybe one day. My hubby's not a hunter so it took him a couple of days to talk me down from doing this Laughing

You enjoy eating the pork like a pro. cheers
