Just wondering if chickens can get mites on their face????? We have had two hens with what looks like mites on their legs. So out came the tea tree oil and the vaseline after a nice warm epsom salt spa of course. We have a little part banty, part silkie hen, tiny little thing that has been not doing well for some time. She lost her friend (another part silkie, part something else in the summer who died from heat exhaustion, we think). Anyway, hubby brought her in and soaked her feet in my $1500 glass sink (where else)and then put tea tree oil on her leg and coated them with vaseline. He has done this twice and today has trimmed all of her leg feathers off so that he could see how she was doing. He then noticed that she has a cluster of little bumps on her face (silkies have dark rubbery facesaround the beak) and he brought out his huge magnifying glass. He thought he saw a cluster of what he thought may be mites. Can chickens get mites on their faces? If so, what can you use to get rid of them? Guess we are paying for taking chickens from the lady down the lane....DARN!!!!!
