at least took the whole animal and left with it ,but they just want the
head .Most are so called "" Hunters "" who will then claim the head as
one that they shot ! In Manitoba you can keep the animal if you hit it
and as they say "" it has to have tire marks "" otherwise I believe it
is a offence in all the provinces and carries a huge fine ! I'd call
the CO's and they can pursue it and hopefully catch the varmit and deal
with them /him /her /it !

Hi , There is nothing illegal about picking up road kill in Manitoba. I was told I could by Len Turcotte, a provincial animal protection officer and that people do pick up road kill all the time.

..........as I stated in my post ?

You can pick it up wether you hit it or not.
...as I said ......must show tire marks ,regardless of who put them there .......Okay ??

That is so different from BC, at least in this area of BC. You are better off to be found with stolen money or a load of dope than to be caught with roadkill you found and took.

There are people who are pre-approved by the Conservation office to attend roadkills and harvest what they can for charitable uses. But only these people can do so in a given area, and the meat they take cannot go for personal consumption, but to feed those in need.

If you are lucky enough ot get an officer on the phone and he is able to attend the roadkill, you might get permission to harvest, but those are slim odds. Here, people shove them to the shoulder and drive on...to do otherwise makes you a criminal.

I am glad we can pick them up. I am now on the hunt for one that is
recent . So far all I have come across are half eatten bodies.
The one I hit that did in the van didn't have tire marks on it it
had bullet holes in it. It was so big it was still alive
and had to be shot by the RCMP in attendance. Totaled my Safari van. I
was driven to work so I could not even take it home .
