The Fat Ewe wrote:eggs to the food bank....what a great idea! I wonder if they would take them here. I will find out. Egg production is going up for me as the hens reach laying age. Yesterday there was 1 duck egg and 8 chicken eggs, way too many for me to use.

Some food banks will not take uninspected food. I tried in the city and no way. But here in Maple Creek they are more than happy to take any extras I have. Especially in the food baskets at Christmas time.

I don't think the food banks take them around here but the soup kitchens are happy to use them. Probably different if they are being cooked right there.

Hey Uno, I put a brokwn lawn mower at the end of our driveway and a poor needy soul collected it. Does that count?

Just kidding. We do stuff (foodbank donations, World Vision etc) but I don't need to be in the draw. Very nice of you to do it.

Fowelr, even though you don't need to be in the draw, you are. I mean, granting broken lawnmowers the gift of a second life is a worthy cause, after all!

Hidden, you're in too, although not for giving so nearly as greatly as Fowler!

Fowler, your lawnmower is a POS. I see why you abandoned it at the end of your driveway. Im pulling the motor and turning it into a gocart and driving it back across Canada for you.

Uno, we donated to our town's medical center to ensure we can support quality doctors in our town, I took a load of things to the thift store in our area and we made our yearly donation to Breast Cancer research. I belong to our garden club and every year make it my mission to volunteer my time to source bedding plants and then get together with a few folks to plant up the planters that beautify our town.

My only wish is to be able to do more and it is wonderful to see all of the people here who give so freely of whatever means they have to help all of the various causes. Chicken people are good folks. Smile

I don't think this is going to count Uno but I wanted to let others know I donate my time once a week to our Junior Kindergarten class with the children that are having difficulties with their letters. I also get to donate only 1/2 hour to a little guy that was in SK (Senior Kindergarten) last year and still does not know his alphabet. I donate so that these children might have a chance at making it through the school system to become important and productive members of our community.

Foal 0069, since I am the boss of the draw I get to decide what counts and so far, everything has. You're in.

So many of us take reading for granted. It isn't until you get to know an adult who can't read to understand the problems and bad feelins about the self that this creates. Tutoring, guiding, encouraging are very worthy cuases!

Hey Uno! We try to donate when and where we can! At the moment we are focusing on a school project called Mission Possible! The goal is to raise money to build a school(Victory Academy) in Kenya for orphan children. The school will have dorms that the children will live in... hopefully!! We have made cash donations as well as taken part in the fundraising by making Kites for Kenya, taking part in a bake sale, helping out with a ham and turkey bingo, donating many items to a garage sale they are having and there will be a few more things coming up! As a school our goal is to raise at least $6,000 Money Throw Some of our teachers will be going to Kenya to help out! Sure hope we can do it!!

Come on WCPSers, who wants their name in a draw for one of my little fabric baskets. All you have to do is get in touch with your inner generous self. I toss your name in a little bucket and will make a draw. How hard is that? It's not! Do it! Read the first post to get the 'rules'.

I read the title and wondered how drawing was going to honour my spirit? What would I have to draw?
Quite different than I anticipated!
This is a pleasant alternative to what I had expected! Thanks Uno
I always give to the Sally Ann. Please don't honor this with a draw tag though, as they deserve everything one can afford to give -IMHO.
If I may, I'd accept one for donating to the local Fire Fighters assn who use the money to help fund support groups and camp for young burn victims.

Auntieevil, you are in!

When I lived in Vancouver for a year, many years ago, my sheltered country self had never seen people digging through dumpsterslooking for something to eat. I was horrified. It was my first encounter with homelessness. The Salvation Army were a visible presence on cold winter nights, doing what they say they do. They have earned my respect.

The local firefighters also show up at every emergency, and they are all men we know. BOth such worthy causes!

I donated to the Lloydminster SPCA and today bought a bunch of stuff for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that my kid's school puts together every year.

I donate to the cancer society as well as the food bank and salvation army.
If lending money and not getting paid back counts then my siblings would be on that list as well....LOLLLL

Done.
There are a few things I do donate to. One is the poppy fund. Every year I make a donation. I am all for supporting the war vets. One of the things I thought I would do if I ever won the lottery was to set up a dorm style or simple apartment residence for vets with nowhere to go. It is an embarassment that after they have put life and limb on the line for our country, they come back to be dumped on the streets with no support or asistance.

Well, I already have one of uno's fantastic baskets, but I want in on the draw to get another one!!

I donated to the local 'westend bus' so that seniors from our small town can go into the big city and enjoy things like dinner theatre or a show of some sort.

We donated every day for the last 2 weeks to the poppy fund as well. Devin lost his poppy every day at school. He finally figured out the eraser trick. Laughing

Living in the sticks like we do, I also donated to STARS air ambulance and our local fire department. They are always first on the scene and saving lives. I have a deep respect for our firefighters and all the volunteers that donate so many hours to helping others.
