Fuelled by a case involving a friends old horse, requiring many court sessions, a new code of practice, pertaining to the health and welfare of equines ( and other farm animals) is being developed.

Horrifying, Hillbilly! Glad to hear this legislation will be in place.

I remember hearing about this.

This code is great, but does it have any teeth? Who is the enforcing body? The RCMP, the SPCA?

I have written and deleted at least 5 comments. This makes me so angry. I am not against killing an animal. I am against causing suffering. My deleted comments said someting like this person should be taken behind the barn and shot in the head. But it is not politically correct to say things like that. It sounds like I am promoting vigilante-ism. It sounds like I have no faith in our codes and enforcements, find them toothless lions. So since all of the above is unacceptable in this day and age, you can understand why I kept deleting it all. Forgive me for having nothing to say. My thoughts on this are unfit for public consumption.

The horses name was Jalupae, should anyone want to research the trial involved. The reason they got off with no penalty for the actual hanging of the horse, was because there was nothing saying this wasn't a humane way of euthanizing a horse. Only a vets word (described in grisly detail in one court session) and common sense which holds no weight in a court of law.
This new code will be set in place so this will not happen again and go unpunished.
