been researching this breed. on paper they seem very interesting. seemingly a classic dual purpose breed. so why so rare? is anyone on here raising them? if not why not?
i'm very interested in trying them based on what i've read but would love to hear from someone with some hands-on.

thanks

Not sure why not, they are a bit more popular in US but even there pretty scarce.
They are smaller (the ones that are to breed standard) than most of our dual purpose breeds,(Roos 7 lb, hens 5lb) but lay very well, seem to have lots of natural instinct left and the roosters are very fancy, showy birds.
I have never seen any of our other dual purpose fly or perch as high as these guys can, I guess because they are lighter they are quite nimble and the ones I raise have excellent fertility.
They mature early and the nice neat rose combs are a bonus.
Try them, youll like them! Very Happy
AND you can say you raise the oldest chicken breed in North America.... Very Happy
