Our smallest and sweetest female pup is always energetic and extremely affectionate and friendly with all strangers but the day before yesterday she started acting really off. I examined her and all I could see was that she wasn't eating so I thought that maybe she had a bladder infection or something like that because she will drink any ground water no mater how contaminated it seems. I put her on antibiotics but then on close examination I noticed today that one eye is swollen looking and not working correctly but then there it was right in front of me all along. Her scull is caved in on the top left side about an inch to an inch and a half.and below that the bone is pushed out. First I thought that someone must have hit her with a baseball bat or something like that but she spends a lot of time in the neighbors yard eating their horse poo and then it hit me, she was probably kicked in the head by the horse. I gave her 3 baby aspirin and will wait and see. My first thoughts were to put her down but after I thought about it she still seems to function reasonably well except it hurts like mad to open her mouth. I managed to get her to eat turkey breast wrapped around the aspirin. There is no outward cut or opening other then a huge depression. Poor sweet girl.

Thanks for your prayers, That is by far the best help that she can get.

Hope you can heal her up!! We had a black lab who was kicked in the head by a horse when I was younger. We fed her milk with a soluble vitamin as she absolutely refused to eat. Once she was healed a little more, we gave her finely ground hamburger. She pulled through. SHe was 6 years old, but reverted to puppy hood again. She chewed everything and would steal my dad's welding jacket and tools as soon as he laid them down. Hopefully your little girl will come through with flying colors. She will be in our prayers!

How's your dog Dan? I wish I'd seen the post earlier - aspirin really shouldn't be given for a head injury. Can cause bleeding in the brain. You'd be better off getting a non NSAID from the vet.
