I think it went over very well.
First day April 20th, we have I believe 150 kids come through from the schools. They had set times for each area, there was interactive games they could play, and Chantecler_eh? did a great job in the poultry area. Only a few chicks pipped in the live hatching, but that is just how nature works, never comes out exactly when we want them to. There was a lady there showing how to crochet, and another with her alpaca fibre works and the kids loved to see all the animals as well. There were mini zebu cattle, lambs, alpacas and a calf on display. Along with Pop's birds, Gramma Zoo's birds and of course Miry and I's Birds. They had set up a cow that you could milk (fake of course) but the kids loved it.
And at the far end there was even a fellow there that had some Camens (forget how to spell that, but a mini crocidile), and some snakes. (Not really farm related but it sure interested the kids).
Now the sale/dislay on Saturday was super busy. The rush of course was at the beginning, everyone coming through and looking and then buying. I took about 100 young birds and 3 adult pairs, along with 3 pairs of guinea fowl, and sold about half. I was quite impressed with the people that came through, and the comments they made about liking this type of sale and how it was so nicely set up. All the sellers had very nice cages to display their birds in, all labelled well and priced. The other nice thing I noticed is we were all on the same track for pricing so people could look around and see what they liked the best, then make their choices.
I have to say Ty was a hit with his baby goslings/ducklings and the bunny rabbits.
Since this was a display as well there were kids/families taking lots of pictures and simply wanting to hold or pet the critters, so not all were there to buy. But I talk to the coordinators after the sale and they figured it was a success and are already talking of expanding the display part next year and hopefully we get more sellers as well.
I had a great time both days, and was exhausted when I got home last night. Unloaded birds, did chores and went to bed.
