We are getting some nasty weather right now. Had rain starting at 8 pm last night, then turned to snow some time before 5 am. Now it is snowing very heavy and it is such wet snow. I was out for 1 hour doing chores and was soaked right through my winter chore clothes...So now they are drying so I can go do round two in a couple hours.
Of course the birds out in the breeding pens are very unhappy with this turn of events.
I guess this is supposed to keep going till mid morning tomorrow, then some more rain on Wednesday and warmer weather, so going to melt this all which is fine, but going to make a bug mud hole around here.
Not complaining too loudly, since we need this moisture very badly, just a pain in the butt for chores.

We have now had over a foot of snow I am sure, it is very wet and heavy.
I have shovelled the back walk many times.
It is now drifting, of course my direct path to my barns is filled right up, some drifts up to my waist, those I found by accident...So found a new route.
Going to have to get the bobcat out as many of my breeding pen doors are covered right over, some pens have no space except right around their little houses...

I knew in my gut that winter was not over, and that I shouldnt have moved them into their summer pens yet! Everyone just shook their heads at me...
Thankfully this time of year it wont last long.

Bus did not run tonight, so good thing hubby works in town, so he can bring them home. Already noted no buses tomorrow, so the girls will get a snow day! Hwy#1 from Tompkins all the way into Alberta to Brooks is closed, no travel allowed. They are not even sending the plows out till this storm lets up. Hubby says the hotels in town are all full as well.

What a big band to the end of winter. Cold

Feel free to send that snow North! We have only had a couple of inches and need the moisture badly as well.

I guess we have something to look forward to though....."out like a lion, in like a lamb".

It sure isn't looking like the last day of winter here.
Sorry to hear you got so much snow Hidden, I am sure glad it was not us! We got about 2 inches this morning and have been getting flurries most mornings. Most of the new stuff melts by the evening, but we have so much snow here still. The locals are even wondering what is going on.
We had our first snow in the middle of November and have had snow on the ground since. So much this year!!! At least we will not have moisture issues if we ever do get spring.
I figure since winter turned up a month early, spring should have turned up a month early. Why doesn't it ever work that way??? Rolling Eyes

Yes wasn't it ugly? At least not too cold....I did up my chores early and headed to my friend's house to quilt the day away...It was the perfect kind of day for that!
Although I could barely see the road going there, it was much better coming home...

Hard to believe that just last week we were riding and moving the cows back to better grass, coming home with our coats undone and fresh sheds tucked under our arms.
The snow is pretty deep but the sun is working as hard as it can to melt it now and we always appreciate the moisture!

Today is the first day of Spring. My kids were blaring Christmas music in their bedroom and now it's snowing. Old Man Winter needs to take a hike!

It took us 5 hours this am to dig out my chicken pens. Hubby spent 5 hours last night just working on the bulk of the yard with the neighbors tractor. But my birds can move about again and I can get in to feed.
My pilgrim hen had her first egg sometime in the storm! Silly girl.

Yah I know Miry, and I also turned out my "million dollar barred rock pair" a couple days ago into a pen of their own and she laid last night some time too. Of course both eggs were too cold to incubate, but hoping they lay for me today again, or at least tomottow.

What a bad barred rock Hidden, Set every egg she lays except for this one I guess. The weather here has been postively beautiful, we had some good spring flakes this morning but was just wet when it hit the ground. No worry of cold eggs here but I feel for you to have to be pushing snow on the first day of Spring.

Oh ya, whatever!!! Is this going to ever end, smiling. You got it bad back there. We had like 3 inches of snow yesterday morning, but all melted by about noon. Our snow here is almost all gone, after days and days of pumping water from places unwanted, sigh...but it was beautiful and warm in the afternoon. I found a buckeye pullet egg in the water in their outside pen, go figure, there was a puddle and in it an egg, about the size of a quarter, must have just "fallen" out it was so teeny tiny. That is the only gal that left to be laying, the others have been laying for quite a bit, she is about 2 months younger than the other pullets. Winter will pass. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.
