Gail Damerow has a whole chapter on feed and making your own. The book is called 'Raising Chickens'. I love the book.

Why soya free, Rasilon?

I must say I am all behind you on this one. I am allergic to beans and peas and sure have a reaction to feed containing either, but I am willing to bet that is not your rationale...

Well I did some research after overhearing a conversation by a cancer survivor. Most soy is processed using a solvent called Hexane. Soy can be responible for learning problems and is linked to different kinds of health problems so I want my eggs and birds soy free. It wouldn't be so bad but soy is in everything. Pudding mix, soup.. it is in animal feed, chicken feed, even rabbit pellets. It just one thing I am trying not to eat.. I am not allowed to post links but if you are interested email me rasilon @ mts .net I can send you what I have found.
I do not know how to quote you Sue

There is a little quote button on the lower right of my post if you want to quote me. Go ahead, I love to be quoted. Maes me feel important.

I know what you mean. Soya IS in everything. I have a devil of a time reading ingredient lists. And you know what is worse...I am also allergic to MSG!

I am not allergic to anything I just don't want to be eating soy. I think there is a market for soy free eggs too.

Nice! But- $6 a lb! Whoa! That must be the organic component, not the lack of Soya.

By the time I went to the link it was not active I was told. Sad
I did buy the latest issue of Chickens Magazine and saw an ad for soy free feed, I will check out their website and see if they list ingredience. I just need another source of protein tomake my own.
