I was just talking to my vet about Gapeworm.- don't have but was wondering.

What I was told was that the gapeworm is roundworm. Treat as a roundworm. But, with gapeworm, weight of the animal is needed for the correct amount to be fed orally.

The best precaution is to de-worm anything that is coming onto your place and quaritine for a min. of 2 weeks

Ivomec does not kill Gapeworm I use Safeguard, gapeworm has been bad the last couple years because of moisture, I treat in the fall and in the Winter and yes I now quarenteen everything new for 4 weeks min. and treat for all worms, lernt the hard way.

It would be good to hear the results. If you go into this link on this forum, there was a massive discussion that I began because I was nearly positive that I had a cockerel with gapeworm. Please read the discussion, even for just information. There was a whole lotta discussion going on. Hope that you find out what the loss of the turkeys were, that is really too bad, sorry for that loss for you. I am surprised that no one remembered that discussion and linked you to it, perhaps it is just me being a little too nosey about why people do or do not do things, sigh....oh well. It was so long, about 45 replies, I think it has some good stuff in it for you to read. Do, still, have a great day, CynthiaM.

Better late than never.
Received the results of the autopsy: no illness was a broken neck!!

Ironically, saw the neighbours dog trying to break into the coop, so I think I have my answers....

Wow, now if that doesn't make ya shudder!! Glad to hear it wasn't the gape though for surely. But a broken neck, blah. Dogs that are not one's one is even worse, thanks for updating the post. I had my free ranging bird group yesterday gobbling up a bunch of night crawlers, didn't have the gumption to stop them, they were having such a good time Shocked . I think that the massive snow melt brought them up from the belly of the earth. Hope that doesn't trigger a bunch of gapeworm junk, sigh.....have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.
