I cut up the last of my pumpkin crop this year and this one was a real beauty, I couldn't believe it when I weighed it and it was 50 lbs!
It was from some heritage seed I got last year from Alana Danko in Ontario, it's name is Rouges Vif D'Estampes (Maxima). It was introduced in France in the 1800s.
Not at all like your jack o lanterns, very compact and meaty with lovely orange flesh. It says on the package it could grow up to 18 lb! Must have been good growing conditons for it here last year...
I would be happy to share the seed so if anyone would like some from this big guy I could mail some to you if you send me a self addressed stamped envelope.
Lost of pumpkin baking coming up....
