We live on a three generation farm here where we share the necessary and the necessicity of life. The younger generation is building a house next door which is about 20 feet away. They have been doing their own contracting. The cabinet installer was to come to put in the cabinets. This was a sub-contractor to the company supplying the cabinets.
The weekend started with the installer phoning to ask the address. He said he didn't need directions because he had OnStar which put him in the neighbour's yard. He phoned to complain that the neighbour's dogs had scratched his truck which was understandable because he had his own dog which we were not pleased about either. It didn't take olng to realize that the installer was a bit different- He asked where the liquor store was, but later said he didn't drink.
He worked for a bit and said he would come back later. Later proved to be 2:00 AM on Saturday morning which means our own dogs barking because there is a stranger in their house. We live away from many lights so even lights coming down the road is a disturbance.
When he went for lunch on Saturday DIL started looking at her cabinets which she spent hours planning. The two top corner cabinets were hung upside down which among other things made the door swing the wrong way. When she told him the corner cabinets needed to be turned right side up he got ready angry. DIL was told she didn't know anything. DIL phoned the supplier who phoned the installer's boss. He turned the cabinets over after much discussion.
He came back on Sunday morning at 6:00 AM. DIL and the rest decided it was no use interfering further. When he was finished and gone we discovered that the crown mouldings were not installed. The installer claimed that the person doing the measuring measured incorrectly, but in fact he installed the top cabinets about an inch too high. The range hood was only partly installed as only unfinished wood was used instead of the supplied finished wood. The supplier, which is a large company, was very upset. They turned the issue over to their regional manager and agreed to have the work corrected by a new contractor.
The new contractor came to see what needed to be corrected. It turns out that some of the lower cabinets are not installed squarely or plumb. This means that openings for dishwasher, stove and fridge are not correct. Some of the shelves are scratched and will need to be replaced. Our DIL and sonn were hoping to be in at Christmas, but are now hoping for Easter.
