I am very seriously considering making up some pamphlets to send out to past customers in the mail for the Spring (2012)

They would contain each breed I will be hatching, as well as little bios on the breed, pictures of my stock, pricing etc. It would also contain chickeny items like my laying boxes, small coops, egg signs etc.

Good idea? Bad idea? I'm pretty hand with a computer, I am quite confident I could come up with a very proffesional looking one. Or should I go the route of a pro? Or maybe just get it professionally printed, perhaps at Staples or the sort?

Anyone else done this? It would also be ncie to have something like that for the shows/sales to hand out, put up on community boards and what not.

te hehe I love it!

I got a pamphlet once from someone I bought eggs from, I thought it was really nice.

That being said, I haven't kept anyone's mailing address from eggs I sold, SO, I was thinking about just emailing people? I think I have email addresses... :S

I think printing them yourself would be fine Smile

I think Staples charges like $0.50 for a color copy. I think that might be cheaper than what I can print them off for, with color ink etc. Ill have to look into how much its gone up.. I always jsut buy black lol

I am already taking orders for next springs chicks, and I am asking everyone for their mailing adress aswell. I have a file on my computer with everyone on it, and what they have purchased in the past etc. Would be easy enough to make an online version as well.

Good idea. Ink is sure expensive to buy! Maybe I will just send out info with shipments of eggs this year. I have in the past made a little info sheet and taken it with me to poultry swaps, etc.... people love seeing pictures of adult stock if they haven't heard of it before and all you have available is chicks! It's a good idea.

You should think about doing a website. Most people have email ad a computer. You can use a free website host and make as big a website as you want. That way you wont have the expence of printing, envelopes and mailing. You can change and update it as you like, it is always there.
Some nice businesscards, professionally made, would be a better investment in my opinion.

I like your pamphlet idea. While a website is a convenience you can offer your clients, a pamphlet in their hand is a service you have provided , gone that extra mile. TO me, an object in my hand carries way more weight than just an airy fairy email that flits in and out of my inbox.

I think even one sheet of paper folded in thirds to make the pamphlet would work great and hopefully keep costs down. BUt to me it shows way more initiative and drive on your part than just a blanket email.

I think the pamphlet is a great idea too. Doing it yourself will save some money and if you are as handy as you seem it will be a great job. When printing, one thing to consider is glossy paper, I always think it looks more professional and less home done. I also like the fold in three ones that Uno mentioned.
I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Glossy Paper, good idea! Or even jsut thicker cardstock, thicker than normal printer paper.

Arctic, I do have a website lol www.doublessranch.webs.com Have had it for quite some time. I get hits off it occasionally, but I like to be able to hand something out. I always have business cards, but Id kinda of like to follow in the footsteps of a hatchery so to speak. They have flyers out, so why shouldnt I Smile

I downloaded a good program last night so Ill get to work on it today.

I do have another question.. should I use SOP 'drawing' pictures for the breeds, or try to get pics of my own? Many of my birds are just pullets right now, not really a good representation of the full grown bird. Unless any members have some 'spare' photos they'd want to share, Im kinda stuck Neutral Id like to have this done far before spring starts. I already have chick orders comming in right now, so the sooner I can get pamphlets out the better! Smile

I actually prefer the idea of keeping a list of customer's email addresses and sending electronic bulletins on occasion. Virtually no expense involved (compared to paper, envelopes, printing, mailing).
Electronic media works. It needs to be an attention-getting, eye-catching email to avoid getting deleted before it is really looked at. But thats the beauty of electronic vs print media - you can use as much color and photos as you want! The more the better. You can also link right to your website.

That said, the paper pamphlets are also a very nice idea, and would be great to hand out at functions or enclose with orders. Either way, I think you are on to an excellent idea.

I would go ahead and use SOP Pics, the hatcheries do right?

Personally I would want to see pictures of the parent birds I was going to get my chicks from. The hatchery pictures always bug me! Show me what I am getting chicks from instead of what an artist thinks they are supposed to look like.
Just my opinion.
