I was just looking over the entry information for the Red Deer Show. It is interesting to see how the number of show classes listed varies with the different breeds.
For example, there are 5 colors listed for Single Comb Leghorn, but only 1 color for Orpington, plus AOC.
I am wondering how this is decided? Are these pretty much the standard classes at all shows? Or is it based on the most popular breed colors? Or maybe it has something to do with sponsorship? Just curious!
Thanks!

its normaly the birds in the APA standard of perfection. the colors recognized will be listed and the others are put in as any other color. aoc cannot compete for best of breed i think

Well, the Standard includes Orpingtons in buff, black, white and blue varieties. Question

yes i just checked that now. they probably dont see enough of the colors to put it on the entry form. if you are showing a blue i would enter it as an AOC blue and im guessing they will add it!

Most shows will make a class for any reconized colors but just list the class number as any other color, when putting in your entry just state the class number and the variety of your bird. If it is a reconized color it will compete for best of breed and further should it win.
