I have two flocks of JG's from two different breeder's ( Black ) and one Rooster is showing gold fleck's on the wings and some are starting to show along the neck area as well ? Although it doesn't look bad it seems to be that I have a mixed breed here and was wondering what other breed would have this fleck as well ? I was thinking Penedesenca but I'm not sure ? Do Australorp have a flecking in there color ?

Sometimes there is some "leakage" that comes out in certain breeds. I had one australorp I hatched from someone elses eggs this year that had cream in his neck feathers, never saw that before.
The splash and some blue ameraucana's I had this year produced some color bleed in the black and blue cockerels, didnt show in the pullets but I have heard now that they can be carriers and pass it on to their offspring, so I have gotten out of that line completely and hoping next year I wont have that.
My thought is you have gotten birds from a line that has leakage in it's past, and it has now come through in your cockerels. Could not be that it is a mixed breed bird, just has some poor genetics in it's past is all.

Just a suggestion- if you want more response, change the title. I think the word you are looking for is flecking. When I read the title I imagined a JG flexing its muscles! But then confusion is a daily part of my life.

Ask a moderator to change the title name to flecking, that may help like Sue said.

I had a blue cochin rooster that had red feather leakage on some of his feathers. I took him out of the breeding program, from my understanding that red feather leakage can be passed through to offspring and is not a good thing. It depends on what you want to do with the bird though and how you feel about things. But I wouldn't use the bird for breeding purposes myself. Just a personal opinion. The rooster is probably still lovely in his own right though. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

Purebred Australorps are pure Black.

The newly hatched chicks do have a bit of yellow, but it all disappears when they feather out.
