He’s dark blue, cute and fuzzy. Otherwise, I’m pretty much clueless here. LOL

Any ideas on this chick’s gender?

I suspect a cockerel. The crest on the cockerels grows to the back more where the pullets crests are more roundish. It should become more obvious in the next 2 weeks. Last year I had a very nice splash pullet that I wanted to keep to breed, Well I did keep him to breed after I caught her crowing!

Thank you gubi. Smile Yeah, I've had that happen with EE's before. And I thought they could be tricky to sex, until I had a silkie. Razz

dont know much about silkies but with ours it was the wattles that gave them away, much more pronounced. It is so much harder when you don;t have another silkie for comparison at the same age though...he/she is cute!

I sexed my EE's at 3 weeks old this year and put a zip tie on the legs of the cockerels. I think they are easier to sex that young then at the 1-3 month old. I will know soon if I was right on all of them.

Oh by the way your silkie looks to be a cockerel, I will post some pics of a peahen that came home with chicks and 2 silkie hens that hatched 3 days ago 18 chicks and are sharing parent hood.

That is it miry. Having another silkie would probably make things a bit easier, but I’m not sure how much. lol I spent a little time looking at pics online and couldn’t see much of a difference, especially with bearded silkies. affraid

Gubi: You have skills. Skills I’d love to learn. Razz So how do you sex your birds that young? I tried doing the day-old wing feather development thing last year, but that was a bust. (I learned later that method only works for certain breeds bred for feather sexing.) Now I wait until 5-6 weeks and mostly get it right…most of the time. Laughing

Yeah, too bad it wouldn’t have worked out with pops. Luckily the Simpson sale is right around the corner. Smile

And thanks for the gender confirmation everyone. Blue Boy is for sale, so if anyone is in need of a blue silkie roo, just let me know. Wink

At 3 weeks old the Ameraucana(EE) cockerels combs start to get a bit wider and turn redder then the pullets.
