I’d really like to find someone in the area that processes chickens. (Someone who isn’t me, LoL) Any ideas? Smile

I have never found any. Your best luck is to find a colony near you to do it. If you want them inspected for resale you might have to dig a bit deeper, but for your own consumption most colonies will do it for you if you have enough or if you fit them in with their times.
There was a place in Saskatoon I contacted but they only do commercial operations.

Well that’s disappointing, but about what I expected.

I’ve called the colony closest to us a few years back but the guy I talked to on the phone just chuckled and said they don’t do chickens for the public at all anymore.

It’s a wee bit frustrating there is no where to take chickens in SK. I guess I’ll go out on a limb and try the colony again to see if anything changed. Never thought of asking if I could get in on their processing times...hopefully that's my ticket in. Thanks Jayme.

Oh, and these chickens (my extra boys) will be just for us, no resale.

Oh I’d ask! And I’d pay to have the deed done too. Too bad you weren't closer. Razz

My one experience with chicken processing (lesson courtesy of my SIL) was alright, but it’s not something I fancy doing again. Nor does my SIL for that matter, haha! It had been over 15 years for her.

Besides, I don’t have a proper setup with running water, etc, either and the house is off-limits according to hubby. Probably for the best.

I had just wanted to see what my options were, (or if I even had any, lol) my boys are no where near ready yet. Doubt I’d even get enough meat for a single nugget off them right now. Laughing
