i have been hearing a strange new crow in our yard for the past week or so! i now all the roosters crows buy heart becuse i only have 3 roosters at the moment, but this is a strange short crow, and i found out today its my old english hen thats doing all the crowing. i got her and the little old engish rooster from a friend that was going off to school, she was an old hen when i got her and she even has spurs. i now that old hens can start crowing its just very wierd to see it! LOL

My silver EE hen did that for a few weeks. I wasn’t sure what the heck I was hearing at first. She sounded that silly. Rolling Eyes She stopped right after Lily returned to the main coop though. Mama must have told her to can it. Laughing

eta: this hen is just over 1 year...

i have Dominique hens with spurs but have never heard them crow...yet!

That's Xenia Rose - she's in Ontario now. Yes, I thought I'd use a different avatar here.

It's an old saying. I guess crowing hens ended up in the stewpot. Not sure about the girls!

I know my turkey hens get tired of the toms and start displaying themselves. Amazing how "male" they can look when they really want to! And it keeps the toms off them.

My sister has a 'gender confused' mixed breed hen. She apparently flies up on to the fencepost early in the morning and crows - almost as well as a rooster! Shocked She still lays eggs, so has not forgotten all her hen duties.
