Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to show some pics of my Silver Sussex!

At the current moment, while I check fertility, I have them in a breeding pen until I am done collecting and hatching, then they will be going back out to forage with the rest.

This is one of the project breeds I will be focusing on this year, and for many years to come.

What do you think of these Silver Sussex?

Gorgeous! They are very "black tie" formal looking. How do they perform as layers?

Hi Heda,

I have to say that right now I have one hen and the rest are pullets, but egg production has been really impressive. The pullets just recently started laying within the last week, so they are still developing as far as size wise. The older hen whom I believe will be coming up two years old lays a relatively nice sized egg. And she was very consistent in laying last year and stopped laying even after a September hatch, she began laying right until Mid nov.

She started about 3-4 weeks ago.

I have to say that overall I am still new to working with the Silver Sussex, but I am impressed with them as layers, but they also make a decent dual purpose hen.

All my Sussex are excellent layers. I have been selecting and only incubating certain sized eggs, I haven't gotten technical with it and weighed, I go by the shape, size and just the feel of the egg.
Small or odd shaped eggs don't get incubated.

I will be sure to post more info, I have plans to open a thread for Project birds, and will have to start a topic.

Cheers!

Nice chickens! Thanks for sharing, I love pictures. I don't know lots about the different types, so I learn from reading about everyone's projects.
