I have been watching the white leghorns over the years, and they seem to be getting smaller. They used to have a bit more size and substance to them.

I am looking for some bigger LF White Leghorns, that I can work on breeding with.   Does anyone raise non hatchery leghorns anymore?

I believe Duane Urch will ship to Canada and apparently his white leghorns are exhibition quality. He has buffs too...

I also have a friend who breeds large fowl White Leghorns, excellent quality. But it would involve some expense, as in the cost of good birds plus long distance shipping. so it depends how badly you want them. Let me know by email if you'd like to talk more, Lady Leghorn or others, but please only those who are serious, not people looking for hatching eggs.

Thank you both for the information. Sad you can't find decent birds in the old breeds, without a lot of effort.

Good point!   Laughing

btw...there are a couple of breeder ads in the Feather Fancier for Leghorns. There are still birds and breeders out there, but you won't always find them by placing a notice on a forum.  I think tracking down breeding stock is easier than it used to be with websites and online breed clubs, but we can't rely completely on the internet.

KathyS, I agree, if something is worth it you will jump all sorts of ropes and hoops, but we just can't afford to do what you did, now.

Authentic Farm, as for effort, it's like I told KathyS I certainly would if I could, but honestly just can't do it anymore. I really have to re-

subscribe to Feather Fancier. Used to get it years ago. Will have to get on that.

Just seems so odd that the good old standard breeds are so hard to find now. Like the Barred Rocks, New Hamps, RIR, Leghorns. So

many people used to breed and show them. Maybe too many new breeds that weren't here before to choose from? I don't know.

Frank.....Those are absolutely beautiful birds.   Finally someone that has good big white leghorns.   Do you ever sell a few in the fall or spring?

Also do you ever come to any of the shows out here?  I "knew" my grandparents white leghorns were a lot bigger than what I have seen here and in

B.C.     If I could ever afford a Trio from you I would be thrilled.    Thank you so much for posting your website with those gorgeous birds on it.

You have worked very hard, to be able to be very proud of your birds.    Congratulations.   cheers

Baker and Goodfellow, Frank you guys have some great looking birds. I looked at your website when searching for RIR large fowl. After looking at your for sale page I moved on, no shipping on mature birds . This is a problem most breeders out west face when searching for new stock . Yes it is a major hassle shipping, I just wish more eastern breeders would ship! Part rant , not a slam.

I have shipped birds in the past. My problem is that I am a couple of hours ,one way, to an airport. When I considered the value of time spent , and fuel costs, in transporting to an airport, I wasn't money ahead!

I did make one shipment of eggs this year to Alberta,( Rhode Island Reds ).

We keep a lot of breeds, and usually only raise enough for our own use. We cull at a young age, when possible, and try to limit what we raise to maturity.

We do sell birds in the fall ( locally), and our hatching egg sales have been scaled back.

We do keep a list of interested customers for hatching eggs, but make no promises regarding delivery. It could be next week, next month or next year!

We charge $3 / egg ,plus shipping ( $55/ 2 doz  got them from here to Alberta in 2 days)

We do not ask for money until eggs are ready to ship, and prefer e-transfer as payment.
