Power outage this am. Hubby woke up, said he thought he heard someone asking if anyone was awake, then woke me up. Power had been out for a bit, incubators down to 70 degrees, chicks out in the brooders were piled, lost 1 turkey for sure, maybe more, just trying to warm them up now with the generators going.
4 sportsmans full of eggs, sure hope they didn't drop too much inside the eggs...

Sorry for your troubles. You guys in Sask. get a lot of power outages. When we moved to the country we were told that we would get lots of power outages but we only get about one or two a year but they are always only for a second or two. It is almost like there is an automatic reset transformer thingy. The only down side is that we have to reset some of our alarm clock radio's because even though they have not lost any time they go into a flash mode until they are reset. See you at the sale. Jayme, I think that I fixed the problem with being able to get on from scratch.

If that is the case then I would guess that most residents have back up generators.

Power goes out in Alberta as well...how frequently depends where you live and how many customers are on your line. We had a power outage last night as well. About midnight it went out, was back on by 4am. We have a generator for the house (where the ducks are). DH hooked up the portable generator to the chicken coop so the heat lamp could run. I hope everyone is alright. Had about 70 km winds overnight so I am guessing a tree went down on a line. Two townships out so it got fixed quite quickly.

I hope the rest of your babies are okay Hidden River!!

Hidden, I have a friend who had a similar experience. She woke up because she heard her name called (young daughter asleep in her bed, nobody else in house). Her house was on fire. They got out safely, but lost all material things.

Your husband and his Angel probably saved a LOT of your stock!! Good for them!! I hope you all caught things in time to avert too much damage. Good luck. xo

Oh no! I had a power outage on Wed and it was nerve wrecking! It happened during the day and just have a big styrofoam bator so I piled on quilts to try and keep heat in, then built a fire to keep the 2day old little duckies warm. we don't have a generator so there wasn't much I could do but hope itcame on soon. I'd just put all the birds together so if I lose the eggs no more purebred eggs to replace them. Also no power means the sump pumps won't work and we've had monsoon rain for a couple of days so we just about need hipwaders to get to the barn. So when I wasn't hovering over my duckies and eggs I was watching the water level rise in the thankfully deep sump pump hole in our basement. I hope every one gets warmed up and pulls through for you. When the power goes it it sure causes alot of stress and worry

Oh what a panic that would cause, hope everything is alright. The winds have died down here, two days of blowing so hard, I was sure we would get some trees down. Glad hubby woke up and you got right on it.

With the power outtage there is no gas in some areas. Awful as everyone is on the land.

Turns out a farmer hit a large metal pole with an air seeder at around 4 am, power outage is wide spread. They need to get a crane in to errect a new pole. Estimate power one around supper time.
We have small generators, saving for a whole farm automatic one that turns on as soon as there is a 1 minute lapse in power.
Hubby had to go get the neighbors large generator because our crapped out that was doing the incubators, so at least every one is happy. Busy day getting ready for a sale, but no power in town means no work for hubby, which is wonderful.
And he reminded me it is Friday the 13th so just our luck.

New Here

I hate power outages, always seem to happen at the worst times! We mostly get the blips and brownouts here, but about once or twice a year we'll have a longer one. Worst was a couple years ago - lost power for about 8 hours in the middle of the winter. Turned out some kids had shot out a transformer. Razz Part of the west side of Saskatoon was out of power, and a whole bunch of farms out west too.

Hope everything recovers well for you!

Well power is finally back on. Lost 2 Australian spotted ducklings, 2 turkey poults and a couple silkies looking worse for wear but still hanging in there. All in all pretty good I guess.
Everything is back up and running, started getting birds seperated into sale cages for tomorrow, should be set to go by early morning...
