For the last few months I have had to stop for rests between or during activities.  I had mild chest pains that came and went with rest.  I mentioned this to my doctor 2 months ago.  She booked me for a stress tests.  Over the 2 month wait the illness progressed to the point where I couldn't do much at all.I've spent most of the week in hospital and now have a large stent in my heart.  We are going to need to make some changes here although not too great.

Glad they caught it for you and nothing major happened before you got in to be looked at. Always surprises me how long doctors will wait on issues like this, it could have been much worse.

So glad you spoke to your doctor and they caught it. Listen to what they tell you for healing and don't over do it, then you'll be back to your old self soon!!

Yeah for modern medicine that can do amazing things. A good friend of mine had a heart attack in front of me, while we were at sea...pulseless and lifeless, then CPR and Aed got a pulse and life back, a long chopper ride to the hospital and 4 hours later he had a stint in and was wanting to go back to work - he was of course on good drugs at the time. But he did go back to work about 4 months later. Amazing what they can do. Smile.

Glad you listened to your body, it was telling you it wanted you do to something.

So glad you are ok rosewood. If your doctor hasn't recommended it you should check out the Cardiac Rehab at the hospital...or through the health centre...Could also be called cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation..
good luck!

What Is a Stent?

A stent is a small mesh tube that's used to treat narrow or weak arteries. Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood away from your heart to other parts of your body.

A stent is placed in an artery as part of a procedure called percutaneous (per-ku-TA-ne-us) coronary intervention (PCI), sometimes referred to as coronary angioplasty (AN-jee-oh-plas-tee). PCI restores blood flow through narrow or blocked arteries. A stent helps support the inner wall of the artery in the months or years after PCI.-National, Heart and Blood Institution

Doctors also may place stents in weak arteries to improve blood flow and help prevent the arteries from bursting.

Stents usually are made of metal mesh, but sometimes they're made of fabric. Fabric stents, also called stent grafts, are used in larger arteries.

Some stents are coated with medicine that is slowly and continuously released into the artery. These stents are called drug-eluting stents. The medicine helps prevent the artery from becoming blocked again.

Lucky break! I know someone who got a bypass last year thanks to the stress test telling him he needed one. It meant they were able to fix the problem before it became a PROBLEM.

Glad you are feeling better. That sure can be scary. The waiting to get help doesn't help either.

As far as the medical wait, doesn't surprise me. For the last 10 years I have a more close involvement with the medical system regarding both my parents. Then there was/is my own health issues that I had/have where I have had to wait for things like MRIs. While in Canada we are blessed to have the tech, the know how for medicine, far better than what other countries have. However, our system is a far cry from what it used to be in regards to wait times. Biggest beef for me is back in the 70s/80s you went to see my family doctor, most things they could handle right there in the office. Nowdays, I see my family doctor and anything above prescriptions and taking your blood pressure, immediately its they have to book you an appointment with a specialist. It can be very frustrating sometimes.

Well I too am glad to hear that you are back home and doing better. Good on you for paying attention to the warning signs your body was giving you.

So is part of your treatment reductions in foods, chores and the like?

I'm not allowed to lift much for 5 days and then can resume normal activities. I have a whole bunch of new meds to take. We will tweak the diet somewhat and will take a look at getting a bit more exercise.

Grandsons have taken over feeding the cows. I think they are quite proud that they can manage that on their own. DW is looking after the chickens and turkeys I manned the hose to water the cows and cleaned buckets this morning. DIL is going to pull out a new bale later. I'm making tea as I type.
