Well this morning after going out to let the
ducks out. I was in the house having coffee
when I looked out the window to see the neighbors
dog running around our field with what I thought
was a duck in its mouth.
Turns out it was my Buff Brahma rooster.
I yelled at hubby and went flying out the door in
my slippers. When we got out to the field the dog
jumped the divider fence to the boys area still with
Brahma in its mouth. Hubby went to the back I went
to call the dogs owners. When I got back outside
hubby was carring my rooster and I thought he was dead.
But now after all that he is alive but shaken and not
a puncture mark on him. The dog is collie x gold retriever
and I think he was just trying to retrieve not kill.
The owner took him home disiplined him and tied him up and
came back to help repair the fence. Will see if he returns
because a second time I will not be so nice. I also have
baby goats out there that are worth a lot more than the rooster. Even though he is my favorite roo. Hope he makes it I have him locked in with my last goat to kid so he can recoup.

Wow. Close call. Glad the rooster survived - thank goodness it was a soft mouthed dog - but all the same...

Sometimes dogs are so stupid, not intentional killers. If your roo has no puncture wounds and was not shaken (another dog favorite) then he fell into the jaws of a very considerate pooch!

If you can, give him a private place to get his wits about him. I hope he makes a full recovery.

That sounds like what happened to one of my old english rooster. He is our dog though so we accept it and try our hardest to keep our gaurd up. I thought that he was dead but he ran towards a evergreen. I held him and gave him some water and food but when i went in to fill up the water again he was with his ladies. His back got a big scab on it, but that healed and you would never know that he got attacked.

I did put him in my kidding stall with the mom
goats and he is doing just fine enjoying the
warm heat lamp and I think he knows he is
safe in there.
