Just wondering what everyone is charging this year for heritage hatching eggs and chicks?

I have only three breeds, buff orpington, cochin (blue, black and splash offspring), and buckeye. The price for hatching eggs, regardless of breed is $2 each. The chicks are never sold until they are one week old. That way I can ensure that they are eating and are healthy. Anything that does not look well is not in the pie, it takes a good week to know who is going to be a keeper (and that is usually 100%), but splayed legs, anything that would cause a chick to not be up to snuff and strong to raise, is not in that pie either. Unsexed chicks (buckeyes and black cochins) and buff orpingtons are $10 each chick. Does not vary. If I have blue or splash cochin, they can be sexed at a few days old, are sold $8 per cockerel $10 per pullet. The price does not vary. They remain at this price until 4 weeks old, after that date $15 per pullet, $12 per cockerel. Period. Have a most wonderful day, CynthiaM.

Thanks Cynthia, sounds great, might have to increase the price of my chicks. I sell my hatching eggs for $36.00 a dozen, and put a few more in if I have them. And chicks $8.00 each unsexed. This is for Chanteclers and Jersey Giants.

Cynthia, I like your style. I think its good policy to set your price, be upfront and honest with what you are selling (and have pride in what you are offering) and let people decide from there. I have been too wishy-washy in the past, so this year I've decided to post my prices on my website and stick to them.

I agree. Smile Currently, I don’t sell eggs or chicks on a regular basis. But if I ever do, I plan to be fair and firm on my asking price. I’ve way undervalued my birds in the past, selling them to strangers for next to nothing, and it’s left me feeling like I let the birds down, as well as myself. Not anymore!

Kathy, this is off topic but I just have to say your website looks even more amazing than the first time I visited it. All those wonderful pictures of beautiful birds. I love you I dig your style! Cool
