How about entering their coop several times per day and speaking to them in a low, calm voice about the importance of becoming nice, gentle chickens (while brandishing a small hatchet for added influence). tongue

About the only thing that ever worked for me was time and special treats. Bits of fruit works wonders, if you put it in the pen and then move back a little ways and just sit down on a pail and let hem get used to you being there. Talking as much as possible.

Definitely treats! Also could you raise their pen a bit or cover part of it so they don't feel so exposed? Even something to hide in. Then with time and goodies, they should come around. What breed are they?

Only feed them from your hand or a dish that you hold. They'll figure it out.

One of our silkies is a little shy (ie: runs away from me ASAP). I have been going in the pen often and have them in with my calm sweet millie, which helps a bit.

If you are able to, I would start picking one up gently (keep the wings held down) and pet and talk gently to them.

Try meal worms or any grubs, what chicken doesn't love those!

Good luck!

First step: Line ceiling of pen with foam

Second step: fit silkies with silkie sized hard hats

Third step: install radio within earshot of silkie pen

I found a good way to tame some crazy chickens is with cheese. They love the stuff. To start, I throw little bits to them so they eat them from afar. Before you know it they will be jumping up to eat the cheese frmo out of your hand!
