Harvest in the Valley, National Film Board 1955

Perhaps not everyone will find this as interesting as me but it struck me in a few ways;

1. Interesting to see how they made a film back then.

2. Oh MY God! I still wear plaid jacket, jeans or overalls and workboots! Some fashions never go out of style.

3. No I'm not quite as old as this film but it still brings back memories. When I came along in the 70's I was too young to do more than pick potatoes for maybe an afternoon. But I remember the cards you had to use to get credit for your barrels (no hourly wage, you were paid per unit) and I thought the grapple to get the barrels on the truck was the coolest thing ever. Then everyone switched to big harvesters and this was only done in spots too wet to pull a harvester through.

4. It was filmed over a fair sized area of New Brunswick but I know exactly where the camera was sitting for a couple of shots.

5. They either slowed pickers down for the filming or they filmed slow pickers. I especially remember some women that were unbelievably fast.
