In two of the counts, almost two thousand chicken froze to death in two shipments as trucks went from farms to the slaughterhouse.

Well this kind of thing just infuriates me! Is it not enough of an outrage that those poor little hens lived their lives in crowded cages, being treated as egg-machines! They could not even be protected from the cold while being transported to their final destination?
“We have very stringent protocols in place regarding the transportation of animals,” spokesperson Carol Gardin said. “At the end of the day, it’s not only moral and ethical considerations regarding the humane handling of the birds, there’s a financial incentive to keep the birds in the best health.”

Hmmm...so where were those "stringent protocols" that should have protected those chickens?
Evil or Very Mad grrrr!

Anyway, thank you for keeping us up to date on the news Fowler. It may not be happy news, but people need to be aware of how livestock are treated.
